Come Grow With Us

Community Bible Study

Designed for forward-thinkers.

What to Expect:  The group meets every Sunday morning from 10:00-10:30. Included will be coffee, tea, snacks, community time, and of course, the study.

The study usually starts with a professionally produced “short film”that serves as the springboard for discussion.  We think it is an invigorating time together. Try us out!

The History ...

HUMC history

1908 .. The site of the Hapeville United Methodist Church was acquired at a cost of $750 by a board of trustees appointed by the quarterly conference of the East Point Circuit, Atlanta District.

July 1909 .. Charles Edward Choate, architect, drew the plans for the building. Construction began.

A point of tradition .. The ritual of the Methodist church's corner stone was followed. The following articles were placed in a box in the corner stone --

  • a Bible
  • Discipline of the Methodist Episcopal Church
  • minutes of the last session of the North Georgia Conference
  • the week's issue of "The Wesleyan Christian Advocate"
  • photograph of the pastor and building committee
  • banner awarded to the first Sunday School Association circa 1876
  • name of officers and teachers of Sunday School
  • names of pastors of the circuit for the last 12 years
  • copy of the church deed
  • minutes of the first building committee meeting
  • gold dollar -- Alaska-Yukon and Pacific exposition coinage of 1909
  • charter and by-laws of Hapeville
  • lists of first council
  • Mayors of Hapeville
  • list of present city officials

October 1909 .. Construction was completed. Rev. M. M. Walraven held services for 183 members.
